The Best 15 Inch Subwoofers in 2022

rockford fosgate p3d4 15

The best option for immersive bass is to cram a 15-inch subwoofer into the trunk of your car. Although more significant, more potent speakers are available, 15 inches is probably the upper limit. That’s about the maximum size and peak output your car can take, however; managing the power may require modifying your car’s electrical system.

Most people are content with just one 8-, 10-, or 12-inch subwoofer. A pair of subwoofers will tremble your car’s frame if you want to get crazy. However, 15-inch subs are for those who enjoy living recklessly and are close to the manager of their neighborhood car glass shop.

I’m tempted to include one of those warnings, “Not suited for youngsters, pregnant women, or those with heart issues,” right here. It would help if you considered yourself forewarned, though, as I’m going to discuss the best 15-inch subwoofers.

The Best 15 inch Subwoofers on the Market

1. Rockford Fosgate P3D4-15

Best 15 inch Subwoofer

What we like:
  • Dominates on a wide range of frequencies
  • Incredibly crisp, clear bass sound
  • Deceptively powerful — hits hard and accurately
Reason to avoid
  • Takes up a lot of trunk space
  • Sound can get muddy and distorted if you don’t have enough mounting space

Subwoofer Diameter15 Inches
Mounting TypeCar Mount
Unit Count1.0 Count

Rockford Fosgate’s sound quality, construction quality, and cost is tough to match. Subwoofers can be louder and more potent. Some subwoofers are more affordable, have higher sound quality, or are built better. However, no other subwoofer offers those qualities in a single package, making the P3D4-15 Punch the top choice. Compared to other subs on this list, the 600-watt RMS power rating seems a little meager. But give me a chance, or better yet, pay attention to this sub. If you want to go low, the P3D4-15 will take you to the 21-hertz sub-basement. Furthermore, it sounds fantastic when done. This speaker is for you if you like rich, powerful bass over high sound loudness.

The two 4-ohm voice coils and exclusive VAST technology from Rockford Fosgate are responsible for that sound quality. The speaker’s effective cone area is increased with VAST. It makes this subwoofer incredibly responsive when combined with the voice coils. The P3D4-15 Punch has two size-related shortcomings. It requires a vented enclosure with more than 2.66 cubic feet or a sealed enclosure with a minimum volume of 1.58 cubic feet. It will sound muddy if not. These measurements and the 7.58-inch mounting depth require a sizable amount of trunk room.

2. American Bass E1544-D2

Runner-Up

What we like:
    • Low price
    • Incredible power and full bass sound
    • Durable and will handle abuse while dishing out punishing bass

Reason to avoid
  • It may be too powerful for some vehicles
  • Requires a lot of juice to run

Product Dimensions18″D x 18″W x 11″H

Five words best describe the American Bass E1544: excellent bass for about $200. With 1,200 watts RMS, it is additionally loud. Before anyone sees you, they will hear you coming and feel your presence. The only issue is that some vehicles might find it too powerful. If you don’t upgrade your car’s charging system, it will rattle you and drain your battery. Thanks to its sturdy, stamped basket and Kevlar-coated non-press paper cone, it can withstand significant abuse. The American Bass E1544 Elite Series is the best subwoofer for less than $200 since it pumps out powerful, great-sounding bass.

3. Skar Audio EVL-15 D2

Third Best

What we like:
  • Bass that will levitate you and rattle your bones
  • Excellent build quality
  • You’ll quit before it does

Reason to avoid
  • Your car will need a serious electrical upgrade
  • Burning smell when breaking in

Subwoofer Diameter15 Inches

One may argue that the Skar Audio EVL-15 D2 deserves to be at the top of this list. Sound quality is better with the Rockford Fosgate. The EVL-15, however, completely dominates the field if raw power and volume are your top priorities. The Skar’s remarkable 1,250 watts RMS and 2,500 watts peak power enable it to produce precise, rich bass. You’ll need a lot of power from your car’s electrical system to get there.

Additionally, you need to bolt this monster down to avoid having the wrong kind of bump in your trunk. The construction quality is also excellent. A three-inch high-temperature voice coil and quality suspension are features of the EVL-15, which starts with a competition-grade paper cone and high-roll foam surround.

4. Sundown Audio X-15

What we like:
  • The undisputed king of power with 2,000 watts RMS
  • Excellent build quality
  • Clear low, thundering bass

Reason to avoid
  • Hefty price tag compared to other subwoofers
  • Will seriously tap your car’s electrical system

You heard that right: 2,000 watts RMS of power. The 2,000 watts RMS output of the Sundown Audio X15 will raise your passengers above their chairs. Subwoofers have two types of energy: power and shock and awe. The subwoofer in your automobile will also shock the electrical system. It requires a lot of power. We’re talking about a larger battery and a powerful alternator. If not, your subwoofer will be visually appealing but will not produce strong bass. It is an outstanding and imposing speaker.

And it’s heavy. It feels like you’re hauling a body in your trunk at 75 pounds. Given the weight and power needs, a huge SUV or truck would be more appropriate than a passenger car. However, you won’t be concerned about the weight once correctly connected. You won’t have time to enjoy this beast’s thunderous bass because you’ll be too busy holding on for dear life.

5. Sundown Audio X-15

What we like:
  • Easy hookup and installation
  • Excellent bass sound quality
  • Attractive sealed enclosure

Reason to avoid
  • Bulky size
  • Doesn’t play well with cheap amplifiers

Enclosures can be challenging. Your subwoofer will sound submerged if the volume is too low. A vented enclosure is preferred by some speakers, while sealed enclosures work better for others. The Skar Audio Single 15″ is a reasonable price because of this. You receive Skar’s power, sound quality, an affordable price, and a well-made, fashionable enclosure. The bass power and volume are astounding, particularly for a subwoofer with a 600-watt RMS rating. But it all on how you use the power; this Skar Audio sub is expensive, just like any other. As you pass, it will rumble buildings with pristine bass. A few users claimed that these subwoofers take up too much room or are easily damaged.

To be clear, a 15-inch sub might not be for you if you’re complaining about trunk space. When using the Skar with a cheap, subpar amplifier, the problem seems to blow these speakers. The subwoofer has already allowed you to save money. Purchase a quality amplifier, then relax and take in the sonic wave.

What to consider when buying a 15 inch subwoofer

Assessing the available space is critical because 15-inch subwoofers require much of it. For both the speaker and the casing, measurements are required. The amount of power you’ll need is another factor to think about. Make sure your car’s electrical system can manage the demand if you exceed 1,000 watts RMS.

Power, sensitivity, and frequency response are essential factors when purchasing a subwoofer.

Power

Power, expressed in watts, represents the speaker’s output in terms of sound volume. Most manufacturers offer two power ratings:

  • RMS Power: The maximum average or constant power a speaker can produce.
  • Peak Power: The total volume a speaker can produce briefly.

The volume of the sound increases with increasing watt output.

Sensitivity

Check the sensitivity ratings if, when comparing two speakers with comparable power outputs, one sounds louder than the other. The sensitivity of a speaker (measured in decibels, or dB) reveals how effectively it transforms power into sound volume.

Frequency Response

The frequency response of a speaker determines the dynamic range of sounds it can emit. The greater the range, expressed in hertz (Hz), the more dynamic range a speaker can provide. For subwoofers, the bass sound gets deeper, richer, and more rumbly the lower the Hz. The frequency range of an excellent 15-inch subwoofer is 25 to 250 Hz.
